Fast jedes erdenkliche Übel geht aufs Arbeiten oder auf eine fürs Arbeiten eingerichtete Welt zurück. Um das Leiden zu beenden, müssen wir aufhören zu arbeiten. Das bedeutet nicht, dass wir aufhören sollten, Dinge zu tun.
Black kritisiert in seinen Schriften auf konfrontative Art viele Tabus der Linken, der Bürgerbewegten und der Anarchisten. Black ist am bekanntesten für sein Buch <The Abolition of Work and Other Essays> von 1986, welches in Übersetzung in mehreren Sprachen erschienen ist.
Blacks einflussreichstes Werk The Abolition of Work gründet auf den Ideen von Charles Fourier, William Morris, Paul Goodman, und Marshall Sahlins. Ursprünglich war das Essay eine Rede, die Bob Black im Februar 1981 in der „Gorilla Grotto“ in San Francisco hielt.

22. Okt. 2016 · What can you say about Bob Black that he hasn't already said about himself? He is a shameless self promoter, a curmudgeon, a cretin, and generally uncompromising to the point of being an outright asshole. That said, The Abolition of Work is probably his best short essay ever.
