Heaven 17 entstand Anfang der 1980er Jahre in Sheffield aus dem Musikproduktionsprojekt British Electric Foundation (B. E. F.), das Ian Craig Marsh und Martyn Ware nach ihrer Trennung von The Human League gegründet hatten.
Heaven 17 are an English synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in Sept. 1980. The band were a trio for most of their career, composed of former Human League members Martyn Ware (keyboards, drum machine, vocals) and Ian Craig Marsh (keyboards) with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
Heaven 17 war ursprünglich nicht als Gruppe gedacht, sondern als ein Musikprojekt im Rahmen der Band B.E.F. Heaven 17 setzt vorwiegend Synthesizer und Drumcomputer ein. Ihr erstes Album „Penthouse And Pavement“ ist und bleibt ein moderner Klassiker.
