Founded by Frank Damrosch as the Institute of Musical Art in 1905, the school later added dance and drama programs and became the Juilliard School, named after its principal benefactor Augustus D. Juilliard.
Geschichte. Die Schule wurde 1905 als „Institute of Musical Art“ von Frank Damrosch gegründet, mit der Absicht, auch eine Ausbildungsstätte in Amerika für Musiker zu haben, die den europäischen Konservatorien ebenbürtig war. Sie war damals in der Fifth Avenue und in der 12. Straße.
