Hoagland Howard Carmichael (November 22, 1899 – December 27, 1981) was an American musician, composer, songwriter, actor and lawyer.

On November 22, Hoagland Howard Carmichael was born in Bloomington, Indiana, as the first child of Howard Clyde and Lida Mary (Robison) Carmichael. Hoagland attends Indiana University and forms his own small jazz band, eventually named "Carmichael's Collegiates", which makes him a campus celebrity.

In 1979, Carnegie Hall held a tribute concert. In 1980, a stage production, Hoagy, Bix, and Wolfgang Beethoven Bunkhaus, moved from England to the United States, playing in Indianapolis and Los Angeles. After suffering a heart attack, Carmichael died at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, on December 27, 1981.
Hoagy Carmichael was one of the most inventive and adventurous of the great American songwriters. Much of his best work reflects his love of the jazz of the 1920s, most notably one of the greatest standards from the era, “Stardust”. He was born Hoagland Howard Carmichael in Bloomington, Indiana on November 22, 1899.
