John Sheppard (also Shepherd, c. 1515 – December 1558) was an English composer of the Renaissance . Biography. Sheppard was probably born around 1515, judging from his statement in 1554 that he had been composing music for twenty years. [1] . Nothing certain is known about his early life.

John Shepherd was a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal and a composer of church music in the 16th century. He presented some of his songs to the Queen and his works are among masterpieces of 16th century music.

John Sheppard [Shepherd] (c.1520-c.1560) John Sheppard was a much more prolific composer than Tallis, but his achievement is comparatively limited. His Latin music consists predominantly of alternatim works with equal-note cantus firmus, especially responds and hymns; and there is, perhaps inevitably, a certain sameness about much that he wrote.
