This hospital was closed in 2002, [8] as a reflection in changes to how society treated patients with learning disabilities with a view to keeping them in the community. [2] [9] Further it was noted that patients were treated poorly by staff. [1] The castle itself ( Category A listed since the 1970s) [10] is in ruins following a fire in 2008.

Apr. 2013 · The project began in 2012, to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the closure of Lennox Castle Hospital and while yesterday marked the end of the project it was also the launch of the website which we hope will reach out to people far and wide who are connected to and interested in Lennox Castle.
Lennox Castle Hospital closed in April, 2002. By 2004, only the original Lennox Castle building remained on the site, all other hospital buildings having been demolished, and the site cleared.
