A veteran character actor who enjoyed his earliest successes on the stage, Jones survived the HUAC blacklist and went on to appear in several productions, some with his son James Earl Jones. His films include Lying Lips (1939), Terror in the City (1964), The Sting (1973) and Cold River (1982).
