The city of Wrexham in north-east Wales has a history dating back to ancient times. The former market town was the site of heavy industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, and is now an active commercial centre. Wrexham was granted city status in 2022.
Wrexham was likely founded prior to the 11th century and developed in the Middle Ages as a regional centre for trade and administration. [8] The city became the most populous settlement in Wales in the 17th century [9] [7] and was at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution from the 18th century.

In the 18th century, Wrexham was known for its leather industry. There were skinners and tanners in the town. The horns from cattle were used to make things like combs and buttons.
