The Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration is a living monument to the story of the American people. Housed inside the restored Main Building of the former immigration complex, the Museum documents the rich story of American immigration through a carefully curated collection of photographs, heirlooms, and searchable historic records.

Ellis Island was America’s first federal immigration depot. Located in New York Harbor just beyond Liberty Island, “The Golden Door” welcomed immigrants and visitors from around the world, processing nearly 12 million people from 1892 through 1954. Ellis Island closed in November 1954.

Im Museum auf Ellis Island. Zu einem der Pflichtpunkte bei einem Aufenthalt in New York gehört vermutlich auch der Besuch von Ellis Island. Allerdings schon deshalb, weil die meisten Besucher New Yorks vermutlich zur Statue of Liberty, also zur Freiheitsstatue wollen.
