Typically measuring about 1.2 meters (4 feet) in length, the sitar has a deep pear-shaped gourd body; a long, wide, hollow wooden neck; both front and side tuning pegs; and 20 arched movable frets.
Beschreibung. Die Sitar hat einen langen Hals mit zahlreichen Bünden und besitzt in der Regel zwischen 18 und 21 Saiten. Die Hauptmelodiesaiten werden mit einem Plektrum, oft aus Metall oder Schildpatt, gezupft, während die übrigen Saiten als Resonanzsaiten dienen und einen charakteristischen, hallenden Klang erzeugen.
