Produziert wurde der Film von Marcel-Hellmann -Film zusammen mit Pathé Natan. Hellmann hatte bei der deutschen Fassung auch die Produktionsleitung. In Frankreich lief der Film unter dem Titel Chacun sa chance am 19. Dezember 1930 in Paris an. In Deutschland kam er unter dem Titel Kopfüber ins Glück am 26. Januar 1931 in die Kinos.
In January 1946 it was announced that 20th Century Fox had signed a deal with Marcel Hellman to make the film, for which Fox put up 50 per cent of the budget. The screenplay was one of two that Emeric Pressburger wrote for Hellman, the other being for Men Against Britannia.
In May, Kurt and Marcel Hellman, producers, were discussing shooting footage of the film in South Africa later that year. By June, the leads were confirmed as Dana Andrewas and Jeanne Crain. It was the first production from Todon, a company of Tony Owen and his wife Donna Reed.
