Michael Mainieri, detto Mike (New York, 4 luglio 1938), è un vibrafonista, compositore e produttore discografico statunitense di origini italiane, conosciuto soprattutto per la sua attività con il gruppo degli Steps Ahead. È stato uno dei primi musicisti a introdurre e utilizzare il vibrafono elettrico, detto anche synth-vibe.

Die von Mike Mainieri initiierte Formation entstand aus der Band Steps, die sich als „zeitgenössische Bebop-Band“ (Mainieri) 1979 im New Yorker Nachtclub Seventh Avenue South warmspielte, anschließend in Japan auftrat und erfolgreiche Alben einspielte, die zunächst deutlich am Straight Ahead Jazz orientiert waren.
