Akim Tamiroff was a versatile and prolific character actor of Armenian descent, who worked in Hollywood, Broadway and European cinema. He was nominated for two Oscars for his roles in The General Died at Dawn and For Whom the Bell Tolls, and collaborated with Orson Welles in several films.
