Umgangssprachlich wird der Kameramann häufig mit dem Chef des Kamerateams gleichgesetzt. Die heutige Bezeichnung „Kamera“ sagt jedoch über den Beruf eines lichtsetzenden Kameramannes (in Großbritannien Lighting cameraman und in den USA cinematographer), also der Person, die für die Filmphotographie verantwortlich ist, nichts aus.
