Karekare Beach – Einsam, unendlich, atemberaubend & zauberschön! Karekare Beach ist ein wunderschöner und meist sogar noch recht einsamer Strand. Die kleine Küstensiedlung befindet sich ca. 35 km westlich von Auckland und liegt südlich des größeren Strandes von Piha.
- Karekare. Mit seiner atemberaubenden natürlichen Schönheit und abgeschiedenen Lage gehört Karekare zu den malerischsten Stränden Aucklands. Karekare ist Teil des Schutzgebietes „The Waitakere Ranges Regional Parkland“ und wurde als Drehort des Oscar-prämierten Films „Das Piano“ weltberühmt.
- Piha. Piha ist bei erfahrenen Surfern sehr beliebt. Doch der Strand ist auch perfekt für ein Picknick oder einen entspannten Spaziergang und lädt förmlich zum Baden ein – und zwar unter den wachsamen Augen der Rettungsschwimmer des Piha Surf Club.
- Bethells. Bethells (Te Henga) ist kleiner als die anderen Strände. Der Strand mit der gemütlichen Atmosphäre fällt sanft ins Meer ab. An der Mündung des Flusses liegt eine seichte Lagune.
- Muriwai. An der beeindruckenden Küste von Muriwai führen Klippenwege zu einer riesigen Tölpelkolonie. Ein guter Zugang und Aussichtsplattformen sorgen dafür, dass man die Seevögel, die hier jedes Jahr von August bis März nisten, hautnah beobachten kann.

1. Pedestrian access is open 24 hours. 2. Gate access summer – 8am to 9pm 3. Gate access winter – 8am to 7pm (Non-daylight saving) 4. Sealed access road – Access to the park is via Karekare Road which is sealed.
2. Is Karekare beach safe to swim in?
To stay safe and sound, you should always swim between the red and yellow flags. Those hilarious lifeguards are out there patrolling the beach at times over late spring, summer, and early autumn. If the flags aren’t up, it’s time to chill and catch some sun, bud. Karekare Beach may be sampled daily from January 1st to December 31st, but for your daily beach fix, the red and yellow flags are your new BFF.
