The Yale Forests are a vast resource for students, researchers and multiple communities, from local landowners to Yale University and the larger academic world. As a program of The Forest School at Yale School of the Environment, the Yale Forests focus on three activities: education, management and research.
The school changed its name to Yale School of the Environment in July 2020 and, within the school, created a distinct Forest School with dedicated faculty and degrees. It also teaches the Yale College undergraduate courses needed for the Environmental Studies major.
The Yale Forests uses science-based management to promote ecological and financial sustainability of our forest resources, and is one of the oldest sustainably managed forests in the United States of America.
The Forest School is the oldest continuous professional graduate forestry school in the nation, formed at the birth of the American conservation movement and intricately tied to the science and management of forests that emerged in New England.
