Pope Paul IV (Latin: Paulus IV; Italian: Paolo IV; 28 June 1476 – 18 August 1559), born Gian Pietro Carafa, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 23 May 1555 to his death, in August 1559.
Fürst Paul IV. Esterházy de Galantha (* 11. März 1843 in Wien; † 22. August 1898 auf Burg Lockenhaus, Komitat Eisenburg) war österreichisch-ungarischer Diplomat, ungarischer Politiker und der zehnte Esterházysche Majoratsherr.
Paul IV was an Italian Counter-Reformation pope from 1555 to 1559, whose anti-Spanish policy renewed the war between France and the Habsburgs. Of noble birth, he owed his ecclesiastical advancement to the influence of his uncle Cardinal Oliviero Carafa. As bishop of Chieti, Carafa served Pope Leo X.
