Stjepan "Stipe" Mesić (pronounced [stjêpaːn stǐːpe měːsit͡ɕ]; born 24 December 1934) is a Croatian lawyer and politician who served as President of Croatia from 2000 to 2010.
Stjepan Mesić was born 24 December 1934 in Orahovica. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of Zagreb University. During his studies he was a prominent student leader. He entered the political scene in 1965 as a Member of Parliament of the then Socialist Republic of Croatia, when he was elected on the citizens’ list.

Stjepan Mesić, dit Stipe Mesić, né le 24 décembre 1934 à Orahovica (Yougoslavie), est un homme d'État croate. Député au Parlement de Croatie dans les années 1960, Mesić revient en politique en 1990 pour contribuer au lancement de l'Union démocratique croate (HDZ) avec Franjo Tuđman.
Incumbent president Stjepan Mesić, who had been elected in 2000 as the candidate of the Croatian People's Party, was eligible to seek reelection to a second term and ran as an independent as the constitution prohibits the President from holding party membership while in office.
