Carl Gustav Adolf von Harnack (born Harnack; 7 May 1851 – 10 June 1930) was a Baltic German Lutheran theologian and prominent Church historian. He produced many religious publications from 1873 to 1912 (in which he is sometimes credited as Adolf Harnack ).
Harnack studied theology in Dorpat and Leipzig from 1869 to 1872, and in 1873 obtained his doctorate in Leipzig, where he began a glittering career as a theology professor in 1874 at the age of just 23.
1 Introduction. In this article, I analyze Adolf von Harnack’s (1851–1930) view of the authority of the Bible and the Church Fathers by focusing on his presentation of the origins and the development of the New Testament.
