  1. All students enrolled at American University are charged certain mandatory student fees each semester. Explanation of each fee can be found below the fee table. A vast majority of universities, including American University, have a tuition and mandatory fee policy.

  2. The Cost of Attendance (COA) is a summary of the average anticipated educational expenses that a student incurs while enrolled at American University. The COA consists of both direct and indirect expenses.

  3. The cost of attendance (COA) for your program includes both direct expenses and indirect expenses for the combined fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters. The direct expenses are the items such as tuition or on-campus housing for which American University will bill you directly.

  4. The fee for the tuition insurance is paid directly to GradGuard. GradGuard will allow any student to enroll and select the amount of coverage they wish to purchase. Coverage must be purchased by the day before your classes start each semester.

  5. Undergraduate Program Cost Guides. The costs below are estimates based on current economic conditions. An increase of approximately 5-7% for each succeeding academic year should be anticipated. This cost guide is created for the purposes of acquiring a visa.

  6. There is a nonrefundable $50 registration fee each semester, in addition to any special program fees, and mandatory sport, technology, and activity fees. Late registration fees are not applicable to faculty and staff using employee tuition benefits.
