An upper school, The Fieldston School, was added in 1928. Under Dr. Adler’s direction, the Society worked to improve conditions in tenement houses.
One of New York City’s most upscale neighborhoods, Fieldston is home to two of the three prestigious "Hill Schools", the Horace Mann School and the Ethical Culture Fieldston School; the third, Riverdale Country School, lies just outside Fieldston to the north.
Ca. 1904, under the leadership of school principal Frank Manny and nature study and geography instructor Lewis Hine, the Ethical Culture Fieldston School became one of the nation's first educational institutions to originate a full-scale photography program.
