The film tells the true story of Jonathan’s father, Robin Cavendish, who, in the 1950s, was stricken with polio at age 28 but went on to live a rich life of adventure and advocacy despite being paralyzed and requiring a respirator.
Jonathan Stewart Cavendish was born 4 February 1959, [citation needed] the son of Robin Cavendish and Diana Blacker Cavendish, who became advocates for the disabled following Robin's paralysis by polio in December 1958. Cavendish studied history at Oxford University. Career. Cavendish began his career in advertising.
Plot. In 1958 in Kenya, Robin Cavendish falls ill from polio at age 28, not long after meeting and marrying his wife Diana. Paralysed from the neck down and unable to breathe without the assistance of a respirator, he is given only three months to live. He is repatriated to Britain.
