Sie und die Liebesgeschichte zwischen ihr und Robin tauchen in den ältesten überlieferten Schriften nicht auf.
In den Filmen gab man Lady Marian ganz unterschiedliche familiäre Hintergründe. Oft wurde sie mit dem Namen Fitzwalter in Verbindung gebracht, was auf eine angelsächsische Familie schließen lässt (1922, 1938, 1997). Ab und an gab man ihr aber auch einen normannischen Namen (1950, 1971, 2 x 1991), was die Verbindung mit Robin Hood durchaus interessanter macht, da dieser offen gegen die normannischen Unterdrücker kämpft.
