Adjectives that are three syllables or longer require the use of 'more' in the comparitve form. (That is, some one can be prettier than I, but she can not be beuatifuler -- she must be more beautiful.) Hope that helps.

There are some cases where for seems to me to be impossible, e.g. "The poison was harmful for her." This seems to mean something like "was harmful as far as she was concerned." A similar situation occurs in "The news came as a shock to her."

' (Please) wipe your feet' is very common and when it's said as you enter a house everybody knows it means 'wipe the soles of your shoes on the doormat'. It's such a common expression that if you were to say 'Wipe your shoes', I think many people would take it to mean cleaning your shoes with a cloth.
