3. Jan. 2019 · Starting Jan. 1, hospitals must publish online the starting price tags for every service or procedure. These detailed lists, known as chargemasters, include thousands of entries, from $791,790 for a heart transplant at Henry Ford Hospital to $2 for a syphilis test at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Variables include the charge for the service, what your insurance approves and pays, and what amounts are applied to your deductible, copay or coinsurance. At Michigan Medicine, we want to help you determine what your out-of-pocket cost is going to be so.

In the United States, the chargemaster, also known as charge master, or charge description master ( CDM ), is a comprehensive listing of items billable to a hospital patient or a patient's health insurance provider. In practice, it usually contains highly inflated prices at several times that of actual costs to the hospital.
