Elf was an American rock band founded in 1967 by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll, and guitarists Nick Pantas and David Feinstein (Dio's cousin). The band was originally called the Electric Elves, but was shortened to the Elves in 1968 and finally Elf in 1972.
Ronnie James Dio und Nick Pantas kannten sich bereits von Ronnie Dio And The Prophets. Nachdem diese Band im Herbst 1967 aufgelöst worden war, gründeten die beiden gemeinsam mit Dios Cousin David Feinstein, Doug Thaler und Gary Driscoll The Electric Elves.
Nick Pantas. Birth: August 21, 1941 - Death: February 12, 1968. New York-based guitarist known for his work with vocalist Ronnie James Dio through a series of bands from the late 1950's through the 1960s.
This band lasted for several years, but when they splited up in Autumn of 1967, Nick Pantas still continued with Ronnie James Dio to a new band called The Electric Elves. The band remained the same until mid 1970, although they changed their name to The Elves in mid 1969.

6. Sept. 2022 · A drunk driver smashed into their van, killing guitarist Nick Pantas and leaving Dio and his cousin/bandmate Dave Feinstein in hospital. Ronnie smashed into the windshield and tore his scalp, requiring over one hundred stitches.
At the time of this album’s issue, Elf was a foursome following the earlier departure of guitarist Nick Pantas. Elf was also without the services of its original keyboardist Doug Thaler who succumbed to an accident. The band filled his void with keyboardist Micky Lee Soule.
