As a schoolboy, he joined a boxing club, beginning a life-long affiliation with the sport. Eamonn Andrews, who was born in Dublin on 19 December 1922, was educated at the city's Synge Street Christian Brothers' School, only a short distance from the family home he shared with his parents, three sisters and a brother. It was at school that Eamonn developed a passion for sport, in particular, boxing.
