As is to be expected with Lemper the performances are very theatrical and deal with the themes of restlessness, sleeplessness and loneliness in the city; my only personal criticism is her adoption of a mid-Atlantic accent and an occasional tendency to emulate the worst aspects of jazz singers (i.e. poorly-judged improvising) when singing in English.

  7. My first contact with Ute Lemper was "Berlin Cabaret Songs", a fantastic disc that I listen often. Afterwards, I bought "But one day...". It is not in my collection anymore. I bought "City of Strangers" given the good critics it has in Amazon, specifically by Mr. Marols.
