Feb. 2024 · A large part of the enormous Demidov collection of artworks housed in 14 rooms at San Donato were thus dispersed in several sales and memorable public auctions, even the works gathered in the "musée napoléonien" created on Elba by his uncle Anatoly Nikolaievich Demidov, 1st Prince of San Donato and the souvenirs that had (mostly) been ceded to Anatole by his father-in-law Jérôme Bonaparte.
The Demidov collection was a collection of artworks gathered by the Russian industrialist Count Nikolay Nikitich Demidov and considerably expanded by his second son Anatoly Nikolaievich Demidov, 1st Prince of San Donato. It was mainly on show at their Villa San Donato near Florence, in which a private museum of 14 rooms was devoted to them.
His Greek connections played a role when he arranged his nephew Prince Paul of Yugoslavia to marry Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark in 1923. He died in 1943, and is buried with his wife at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Athens. His half-brother Anatoly Pavlovich Demidov became the 4th Prince of San Donato. Writings
She married a rich Russian nobleman, Anatoly Nikolaievich Demidov, 1st Prince of San Donato, on November 1, 1840 in Rome. Anatole was raised to the position of Prince by Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany shortly before the wedding to fulfill the wishes of Mathilde's father and to preserve Mathilde's position as Princess.

In 1845, during a trip into Italy with Henri de Bourbon, comte de Chambord, he visited the collection of the Russian millionaire Anatoly Nikolaievich Demidov, 1st Prince of San Donato and became the lover of Demidov's wife Princess Mathilde (niece of Napoleon).
