17. Aug. 1990 · The other members of the group were Harold Reid, Phil Balsley and Joe McDorman. The quartet started out singing gospel music under the successive names of the Four-Star Quartet and the Kingsmen.
25. Apr. 2020 · Harold and three boyhood friends, Lew DeWitt, Phil Balsley and Joe McDorman founded the Four-Star Quartet in 1948. The group, later known as the Kingsmen, sang mostly gospel music. 28. Okt. 2019 · What happened to Joe McDorman? In 1958, the group changed their name to the Kingsmen, and by 1962, McDorman had been replaced by Reid’s brother Don. However, in 1982, DeWitt was forced to leave the band due to Crohn’s disease; the illness killed him on August 15, 1990. Jimmy Fortune joined the remaining Statlers as DeWitt’s successor.

In 1960, lead singer Joe McDorman decided that he wanted to get married and go to college rather than continue with the group, so he left and Reid’s younger brother Don, a 19-year-old student at Dunsmore Business College, took his place.
