All Cass Technical High School students are assigned to a specialized curriculum upon admission. Students follow a sequence of curriculum courses which are designed to deepen in-demand skills and knowledge and lay the foundation for the career of their choice. Cass Tech graduated its first class in 1910, though it was only six or seven students. The next year, the council approved $225,000 (more than $5 million today, when adjusted for inflation) to build a new building on the site of Cass Union. The triangular-shaped building was named Cass Technical High School and formally opened Oct. 23, 1912.
