Leben. Martin R. Dean wuchs in Menziken im Kanton Aargau auf. Seine Mutter war Schweizerin, sein Vater stammte aus Trinidad und Tobago.Er besuchte die Alte Kantonsschule Aarau und studierte anschliessend an der Universität Basel Germanistik, Philosophie und Ethnologie. 1986 schloss er sein Studium «summa cum laude» mit einer Lizentiatsarbeit über Hans Henny Jahnns Roman Perrudja ab.
