Known as the queen of Carnival celebrations in Costa Rica, Puntarenas Carnival features parades that make their way down Paseo de los Turistas in the center of the town of Puntarenas. In these parades, visitors will get an opportunity to view exciting figures such as the comparsas (groups of dancers) and mascaradas (giant painted smiling heads).
Pepe is in love with an American nightclub singer Celeste (Celeste Holm), and Luisa is smitten with Jeff Stephens (Dick Haymes), a young Amerian visitor to Costa Rica. It takes a while and lots of carnival and fiesta celebrations and parades, and ten songs before Papas Molino and Castro come to terms with and accept the fact that their children , no matter their age, will choose their own mates.
Luisa (Vera-Ellen) has a problem. After returning to Costa Rica from her studies in the United States, the young woman discovers that her parents have decided that she will marry Pepe (Cesar Romero).
