Jim triumphantly returned to Island Records in 1988 with a renewed sense of purpose, and produced some of his biggest radio hits in the US for many years, including 'Something So Strong' which was featured in the cult movie "Best Of The Best". Joined by old friends Steve Winwood, George Harrison, Eric Clapton and others, critics noted the re-energised sound of Jim’s new record.
The international release of Jim’s 1978 album was his debut for Polydor, and found him flexing his musical muscles with the occasional nod to the dancefloor, and a cover of Brian Hyland’s “Sealed With A Kiss”. The title song soundtracked the film of the same name by Kevin O’Neal.

Let The Thunder Cry marked a return to more familiar sonic territory, following the experimentation on Jim’s recent releases. It was hailed both for its intelligent lyrical comment on social issues, and some of his strongest material in a while. His growing confidence as a singer is a thrill to behold.
