Biography. Percy, who was described by Mrs Nicholson Calvert as ‘a chattering good humoured civil young man’, was utterly dominated by his father. The 2nd Duke of Northumberland, a former soldier, was vain, arrogant and crotchety. He attached himself to the Prince of Wales in 1788, but his real political influence was slight.
