In late 1961/early 1962, Larry Parnes decided that Billy should have his own backing group. He saw Tex Makins, Georgie Fame, Red Reece and Colin Green rehearsing with a singer called Clay Nicholls, who called his band The Blueflames. Billy decided he liked the Blueflames because of the initials BF. And so Billy Fury and The Blueflames were born.
