28. Nov. 2023 · The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) finds regions of local similarity between sequences. The program compares nucleotide or protein sequences to sequence databases and calculates the statistical significance of matches. BLAST can be used to infer functional and evolutionary relationships between sequences as well as help identify members of gene families.
Note that this extension is not a BLAST alignment and should not be used to infer any homology between the query and the subject sequences. It is intended only as a convenience to show the missed part in the context of the germline sequences. If you want to see true BLAST alignment to cover your sequence as much as possible, make sure you select the lowest mismatch penalty (i.e., -1).
