Overview. The traditional Leaving Certificate examination is the terminal examination of post-primary education and is taken when students are typically 17 or 18 years of age. Syllabuses are available in more than 30 subjects and students are required to take at least five subjects, one of which must be Irish.

New book honours Synge Street’s 150 years. By Sean Ryan - 01 April, 2015 . A book marking CBS Synge Street’s 150 years was launched recently by broadcaster Gay Byrne, an eminent past pupil. Titled ‘Never A Dull Day: 150 years of Synge Street CBS 1864-2014’, the launch was the last event of the school’s 150 th celebrations.
Con Creedon was a pupil at Synge Street from 1938 to 1943. He went on to found a leading construction company here in Ireland. He left a bequest to the school for the benefit of students to to help support them in their third level studies. John Carney (born 1972) is an Irish film director, producer, screenwriter and lyricist who specialises in musical drama films. He is best known as the showrunner and executive producer of Modern Love on Amazon Prime Video, for his 2007 movie Once and the film Sing Street. He is also a co-creator of the Irish TV drama series Bachelors Walk.
