Told with authority, a refreshing dose of humour and moving honesty from a totally unique viewpoint, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait is the must-have biography of the longest-serving monarch in English history, of a woman who represented not only her people but stood as an emblem of fortitude and resilience worldwide throughout her long life.
Clearly Brandreth has great respect for Elizabeth and Philip, though not for all members of their extended family. He goofed on a few key dates, however: I had to write in the correct year for the death of the last Duke of Kent (1942) and for Charles and Camilla's wedding (2005). Still, the book is a good read, allowing us a backstage glimpse of the Queen and her family.
