  1. Elena V. Timoshina – Doctor of Law, Professor of the Theory and History of State and Law Department at Saint Petersburg State University. The theses were prepared within the framework of the scientific project № 18-011-01195 “Validity and efficacy of law: theoretical models and strategies of judicial argumentation”, supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

  2. The Faculty of Law became the biggest at Saint Petersburg University by the end of 19th century (1335 of 2675 students studied there in 1894). The university's and faculty's advancement was stopped by the Revolution of 1905, World War I and the Revolution of 1917. After the Revolution many professors left the country, some of them were expelled.

  5. The tradition that existed at the University from 1835 to 1918 was restored. Since 1 September 2016, in accordance with the Federal Law, St Petersburg University and Lomonosov Moscow University were granted the right to defend dissertations according to their own rules and to award their own academic degrees that are also recognised by the state.

St. Petersburg University has launched the selection process to award visiting professorships to eligible candidates from non-Russian universities and research institutions under the SPbU Visiting Professor Program for the autumn semester 2024 / spring semester 2025. The autumn semester runs from early September 2024 to mid-January 2025.
