Merton College is currently closed to general visitors but members of the public are always welcome for chapel services and events. The choirs are exceptionally good as is the organ, so a detour for evensong (tues to thurs at 615) or for the organ recital (thurs at 115) will prove well worthwhile. 4. Aug. 2022 · Merton offers accommodation for all years and has a cosy and cheap college bar. The college food is also cheap but there is lots of it, which students aren’t annoyed at. Merton is located 2 minutes from the High Street but tucked away enough to not hear a car pass.
Merton College, the first fully self-governing college in the University of Oxford, was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton. The collection of pictures in the college reflects the institutional life of this academic community through portraits of former Wardens, fellows and students from the sixteenth century to the present day.
