It now seems like a bit of a testing ground for the ideas that they would take much further on that nightmarish, dystopic Y2K masterpiece, and therefore inconsistent as a matter of necessity.

Langley's lyrical sense and delivery still does the business, his elaborate wordplay and rich metaphors avoiding preciousness on the one hand and doggerel on the other.
