W. H. Auden Wystan Hugh Auden, englischer Dichter, wurde 1907 in New York geboren und starb 1973 in Wien. Während seines Studiums in Oxford wurde er Führer der "Pylon Poets", einer linksgerichteten Intellektuellengruppe. 1935 heiratete er Erika Mann, 1939 emigrierte er in die USA. Von 1956-61 war er Professor für Dichtkunst in Oxford.
