He was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment by his manager of an apparent drug overdose, says Rolling Stone. Paul Butterfield ( 17. prosinec 1942 Chicago, Illinois, Spojené státy – 4. května 1987 North Hollywood, Kalifornie, Spojené státy) byl americký bluesový zpěvák a hráč na foukací harmoniku, který na začátku 60. let 20. století založil skupinu The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, se kterou hrál na festivalu Woodstock v roce 1969.
Die Paul Butterfield Blues Band hatte bereits eine feste Anhängerschaft, als sie von Electra unter Vertrag genommen wurden. Mike Bloomfield (guit) und Mark Naftalin (keyb.) verstärkten die Band. Sam Lay wurde von Bill Davenport abgelöst. 1965 traten sie in dieser Besetzung beim Newport Folk Festival auf und wurden stürmisch gefeiert.
