He was known as Lord Robert Cecil before 1865 and as Viscount Cranborne from 1865 until 1868. Salisbury served as Prime Minister three times for a total of over thirteen years.

Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil (ur. 3 lutego 1830 w Hatfield, zm. 22 sierpnia 1903 tamże) – brytyjski polityk, wielokrotny minister spraw zagranicznych i premier Wielkiej Brytanii w latach 1885–1886, 1886–1892 i 1895–1902. Salisbury war der älteste und einzige überlebende Sohn von Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 5. Marquess of Salisbury , und seiner Ehefrau Elizabeth Cavendish Vere. In Eton erzogen, ging er im Anschluss zu den Grenadier Guards , um mit ihnen am Zweiten Weltkrieg teilzunehmen. 1942 wurde er bei einem Manöver an der Lunge schwer verwundet und nahm, noch in Behandlung, an der Invasion in der Normandie teil.
