Four of the cuts on Sammy Steps Out had already appeared on Sammy’s previous Reprise LP, The Goin’s Great, and the remaining six had been recorded way back in March and June of 1968. Sammy Steps Out ’s torturous path to release began in the spring of 1968 when Sammy was in Chicago performing in Golden Boy (in preparation for its run on the West End in London).
