2. Nov. 1997 · Luther Russell's 1st solo release. “Lowdown World is a heartfelt, honest record." --No Depression
Luther Russell's self-made solo album, Lowdown World (recorded at his home in Oregon on a four-track recorder), can easily be described as a cross between the first Paul McCartney record and Bob Dylan's World Gone Wrong, with a little Joe Cocker thrown in for good measure.
He was the lead singer/songwriter of the band, The Freewheelers, [2] who made two albums for DGC Records and American Recordings Company, respectively. He went solo, starting with "Lowdown World" (1997), [3] "Down At Kit's" [4] (1999), and "Spare Change" [5] (2001) all recorded while living in Portland, Oregon.

1. Mai 1998 · Lowdown World is a heartfelt, honest record that should appeal to fans of artists such as Peter Case and John Wesley Harding. While much of it is surprisingly dark in contrast to Russell’s extroverted, fun-loving stage personality, his pop instincts are not completely buried.
12. März 2020 · After the Freewheelers split up Luther Russell remained active, starting a string of solo records that began with 1997’s Lowdown World, an earthy effort with strong folk and blues influences.
