  4. Historical Landmarks & Sites. Some historical points of interest in and around Clarksburg are: Indian Mounds located along the road to the city's Veteran Memorial Park, these mounds were probably constructed by the Hopewell culture between A.D. 1 and 1,000. They are thought to be burial mounds.

  5. Clarksburg was named in 1778 for General George Rogers Clark and incorporated in 1785. Clarksburg Downtown Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. During the Civil War, Clarksburg served as a supply depot of the Union Army from 1861 to 1865.

  6. Historic Buildings. Unlike many of the small cities of North Central West Virginia, Clarksburg saw prosperity before the Civil War thanks to the commerce brought by the connecting road systems and the Baltimore & Ohio Railway. Many century old buildings, that go well back into the 1850s to the 1880s and before, have survived and can still be seen.
