In 1992, Sweet played bass on the album To Hell With Love by Suzanne Rhatigan, which was produced by Sweet's Girlfriend producer Fred Maher and also featured Sweet's guitarist Robert Quine. In 1994, Sweet co-produced the Velvet Crush album, Teenage Symphonies to God .

In 2002, Sweet contributed his song "Girlfriend" for the film Crossroads, He also contributed the song "Daddy Wasn't There" (with Mike Myers) for the film Austin Powers in Goldmember, as well as appearing in the film itself.
Well, how about wifeless? Married at 19, Sweet and his wife had been together six years and were by 1989 living in a Princeton, New Jersey house… but she eventually tired and moved back to NYC. The only upside? It left Sweet more space in which to demo a make-or-break third album…

Earth is the second album by alternative rock musician Matthew Sweet. It was released on A&M Records in 1989.
My love of 90s-era Matthew Sweet has flared up recently and boy, has it been an utter delight. As with 98% of all my musical loves, I happened into Matthew Sweet in a haphazard, backwards way. I didn’t fall in love with the “Girlfriend” video like so many people I know.
