Tangents in Jazz is the second album by American jazz clarinet and saxophone player, composer and arranger Jimmy Giuffre which was released on the Capitol label in 1956.
12. Sept. 2006 · Within the archetypal West Coast sound, Jimmy Giuffre always had his own thing going on, and in the case of both The Four Brothers Sound (Atlantic) and Tangents In Jazz (Capitol), the two dates brought together here from the mid-1950s, that point seems obvious.

‘Jimmy Giuffre’; ‘Tangents In Jazz’; ‘The Jimmy Giuffre Three’ and ‘Historic Jazz Concert At Music Inn’ display Giuffre’s style which moved from what he called ‘blues based folk jazz’ to a more intimate and rhythm less form of free jazz dubbed ‘chamber jazz’.
The group can be seen performing "The Train and the River" in the film Jazz on a Summer's Day filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. [1] In 1959, Giuffre led a trio featuring Hall and bassist Buddy Clark on a concert in Rome, Italy, sharing the bill with Gerry Mulligan 's band.
